Welcome to the Boatshed at Albert Park
Sailability - for everyone

Australians are famous for their outstanding sporting achievements, however many have been prevented from trying sailing because it appears complicated, expensive, dangerous, or they are restricted by some type of disability.  Sailability is changing all that.

The aim of Sailability is to introduce people of all ages and abilities to the joys of sailing in a straight forward, fun, inexpensive way in a supportive environment.  Community based Sailability programs are continually being established around Victoria with some located at existing yacht clubs and others operating independently.

Most of our sailors just enjoy the freedom and fun of recreational sailing and the supportive social atmosphere, but there are also plenty of opportunities for the more competitive to develop their racing skills.

Sailability utilises the revolutionary Access Dinghy.  Purpose designed in Australia as an easy to sail introductory craft, these small dinghies many unique features.  Unlike conventional sailing dinghies, the sailor sits in a comfortable lazy chair facing forward, steering is made easy with a simple joystick, and a weighted keel provides stability.

Single and double seat versions are available and a specially fitted "electric" version means that a person with a disability who can operate their own electric wheelchair can also experience the exhilaration and independence of sailing.

Sailing Development Program launched at Albert Park

Wheelchair Sports Victoria in partnership with Sailability Victoria launched the new Sailing Development Program on Sunday 18th April at Albert Park Lake. The program aims to enable people with disabilities of all ages and level of ability to become actively involved in the sport of sailing.

Eight participants attended the first session and Wheelchair Sports Victoria and Sailability encourage more members to sign up to participate in the next session to be held on Sunday 16th May from 10.00-12.00pm.
